In The Park

Circus artist Andrew Giordano and musicians Colin Counch and Henry Muth will lead you through Exhibition Park where four professional choreographers will showcase works that use the space — the grass, the trees — to tell their stories. A delight for all members of the family.

Chorus Two (Premiere)

Chorus Two takes inspiration from the swaying and prayer known as davening that is performed by Jewish men during religious rituals. The music for Chorus Two is created and performed by Radwan Ghazi Moumneh, a musician and performance artist who grew up in a deeply religious Muslim family in Lebanon. Chorus Two is inspired by an idea of movement that is an integral part of prayer; movement, in short, that is spiritual and in so being seeks a connection to some greater power. In 2011, the choreography was awarded the Studio 303 Flexi Prize for Best Choreography.

Evocation—gentle rain falling (2006)

Evocation—gentle rain falling (music by Mark Duggan) is a meditation on the eternal oneness of the source of all things. The work takes the audience on a journey through different imaginative landscapes, weaving through space with various qualities—fluid, quick, aggressive, delicate—culminating in slow prayer-like movement, as if “a river flowing home to the sea.”

BOB excerpt (2010)

BOB is a dark and comedic aerial dance duet that tells the tale of two gals on a casual boating trip … when suddenly the boat capsizes and the adventure takes a different turn. The dancers struggle to stay afloat, to search for shore or help, but their desperate efforts are in vain. The boat eventually sinks and the girls give into their fate and drown together.

Bodhi Tree Duet (An excerpt from Eight Ways From Mara)

Eight Ways From Mara is inspired by the verses of The Buddhist scripture 'The Dhammapada'. It translates the wealth of imagery and poetry from the Buddhist philosophy and musings to reflect on our modern society to achieve a work of great richness and evokes the spirituality that will guide and inspire. Thoughtfully conceived and choreographed by artistic director William Yong with original music composer by Andrea Rocca. Bodhi Tree Duet was an excerpt from Eight Ways From Mara. The duet represents union, contemplation and recollection. It was under the Bodhi Tree that The Buddha sat and meditated to reach enlightenment.
